FOBISSEA Primary ICT Conference at Alice Smith School, Kuala Lumpur

ICT is now a major element of education. It's a core curriculum subject, it's a key component of all other subject areas, and it's playing a greater role in all of our lives. In addition, technology is changing at such a fast pace therefore making it is increasingly important for us to keep up-to-date with the latest developments. These were our reasons for inviting all FOBISSEA schools to get together and share ideas, methods and resources.

The first FOBISSEA Primary ICT Conference, 'Teaching & Learning with ICT' was hosted at The Alice Smith School where 13 ICT teachers, coordinators and Heads of Department gathered from across the region to compare notes on how to use, teach and manage ICT in FOBISSEA schools. Areas of particular interest were: e-safety, new Web2.0 opportunities, free online resources, and developing a new digital literacy for the 21st Century. Having this opportunity was of huge benefit to all the delegates, who were able to take away with them a shared knowledge and understanding from such a wealth of 'experts' in the same field. An openness and willingness to share was a key characteristic of all those attending - one which continues today with regular e-mail discussions, Skype calls, blogging and sharing resources on our del.icio.us site or online storage - technology in action, supporting our communication & collaboration.

All those attending agreed that they should meet again next year, where we are sure that there will be many new and exciting developments to discuss in the wonderful world of Technology in Education.

FOBISSEA Heads’ Annual Business Meeting/EGM 2008

On Friday, March 14th 2008 The Regent's Schoool, Bangkok was proud to host a cocktail evening as part of the Federation of British International Schools of South East Asia and East Asia (FOBISSEA) Heads' Annual Business Meeting and EGM.  For two days Heads from the regions' International schools met in Bangkok to discuss current pertinent events such as membership application, professional development and other items related to FOBISSEA that affect the British International education community.

The evening provided an excellent opportunity for socialising and networking at the end of a busy day of meetings, augmented by food, drink and some light entertainment. Our guests mingled enjoying food from Japan, Thailand and Mexico to a programme of music performed by The Regent's Chamber Orchestra that took in everything from Mozart to Bryan Adams.

The Science Department was also on hand to demonstrate the progress of our CO2 Reduction Competition, as mentioned recently in the Sunday Bangkok Post, which forms the backbone of our environmental initiatives.

After an introduction by the Principal, Martin Kneath, The Regent's Chairman, Dr. Virachai Techavijit gave a short speech welcoming the Heads of FOBISSEA and re-affirming the Regent's Schools' support of FOBISSEA, whose membership he holds in very high regard.

This was followed by a traditional folk song from some of the Estonian Global Connect students, a country which has long standing ties with The Regent's.  Proceedings were concluded with a typically adept violin performance by one of our Y13 students, Ruaychai Saengow accompanied by Arisa Kawasugi on piano.  He will be completing his studies this summer before embarking for the UK to continue them at The Royal College of Music.

A relaxed and enjoyable evening was had by all, providing a welcome break in a busy two days in the FOBISSEA calendar.
