Types of Membership

Membership to FOBISSEA is open to those schools located in South East Asia and East Asia (as defined in Appendix 3 of the Constitution) that provide a British-type curriculum for a significant majority of its students.

To qualify as a member, the candidate school must satisfy the membership criteria as set forth in FOBISSEA’s By-laws and successfully complete the application process.

Members are individual schools and the membership is not open to individual persons. Each member school will designate the Head of the School as its representative who will vote and hold office in FOBISSEA on behalf of the respective member schools.

Currently there are five (5) main classes of membership:-

  • Full Membership - Full Membership is open to those schools located within South East Asia and East Asia. Full members do not have the right to vote and hold office in FOBISSEA.
  • Associate Membership - Associate Membership is open to those schools located in Asia other than in South East Asia and East Asia (as defined in Appendix 3 of the Constitution). Associate Members do not have the right to vote and to hold office in FOBISSEA.
  • Corporate Membership – Corporate Membership is open to those schools located in South East Asia and East Asia which are part of a group of schools under the ownership of a single owner, a central organization and/or a company. Corporate members have the right to one (1) collective vote.
  • Provisional Membership – Provisional Membership is assigned to those schools located in South East Asia and East Asia whose applications for membership in FOBISSEA are accepted on a probationary basis. Provisional members do not have the right to vote.
  • Aspirant Membership - An Aspirant Member is assigned to those schools located in South East Asia and East Asia which have submitted an application for membership in FOBISSEA and have been approved for a school visit by two FOBISSEA Heads.

However, please note that we will be launching a new category of membership in 2012 called the "Affiliate Membership" that will be open to educational organisations and suppliers who are of interest to schools.

The introduction of this new category of membership requires a change to the FOBISSEA Constitution which will need to be voted through at the AGM in November 2011. Please click here for more information.
