Welcome to the FOBISSEA website. FOBISSEA is a Federation of 29 British international schools in the South East Asia and East Asia regions. These schools are found in 11 countries and have educational responsibility for over 21,000 students. The Federation aims to promote excellence in its member schools, to promote British-style education in South East Asia and East Asia and, to provide the staff of member schools with professional development opportunities commensurate with those available in the United Kingdom. |
| While united by a common sense of Britishness, our Federation also reflects a high degree of diversity. Some of our schools are large and some small; some are privately owned and some under the auspices of foundations and trusts. Some of our schools are comprised of mainly expatriate students and some, mainly students of local origin. Most of the schools deliver educational programmes based on the National Curriculum of England, IGCSEs and A-level but some also offer IPC at Primary and the IB Diploma at Secondary. |
As an organization we are constantly looking at ways to meet our objectives more effectively. In the future we plan to develop stronger links with other federations of British international schools in order to take full advantage of opportunities to improve the profile and needs of British international schools and their students and teachers, with policy makers in London who make decisions about education that affect those providing a British style education abroad. We plan to strengthen the relationship between our Professional Development Centre in Singapore and the schools clustered in various countries within the region. Our Heads and Senior Manger conferences are already becoming more educational in their focus rather than organisational. We plan to continue to further improve the breadth and quality of the events established to provide students with the opportunity to compete and collaborate with each other thorough sports, music and the performing arts. As the Federation expands we will also be reviewing our organizational structures in order to ensure that the infrastructures that underpin our activities remain strong and robust in relation to the demands being made upon them. FOBISSEA is, more than anything, an organization of educational fellowship. Our students, our teachers and our school leaders enjoy being together. I am sure you will find it to be the same as you come into contact with our schools and our Federation. |
